The Parenting collection has numerous practical books and dvds on the parenting of children from infants through to the teenage years. Basic pregnancy resources are also located in this collection. Resources that cover difficult pregnancies or other pregnancy health concerns are located in the adult non-fiction on the main floor. The Parenting collection is located on the second floor, beside the children's picture book area at the Downtown branch, and near the Interactive Zone at the Painswick branch.
Browse through the listing to see what informative, educational and sometimes humourus materials we have available to help you deal with the joys and stresses of parenting. We also have books on “Sensitive Topics” (i.e. bullying, death, divorce, illness etc.) to share with children.
These are books for parents; books on Sensitive Topics for children can be found on our Book Buzz page.
The Internet can also be a powerful resource when researching topics about parenting. Ask us for recommendations on useful sites.
The Children's Librarian has put together a list of titles that are recommended reading for children, divided into age categories 6 to 9 years, 9 to 12 years and 12+ years of age. Check out the Book Buzz page for several suggested reading lists!

Storytime Kits are complete resources that include: books, cassettes, glove puppets and rhymes suitable for offering a storytime to a preschool group. These are available for use by preschool educators and daycare providers. Each kit contains all the materials necessary to conduct a thirty minute storytime programme, including books, a music cassette or a CD, at least one glove puppet and activity cards for suggested songs, games, finger plays, etc.
Our Storytime Kits are offered in a variety of themes as listed below, and are available for a one week loan from Saturday to Saturday. All kits must be booked for a specific week in advance. If no one else has booked your kit by Friday, you may renew for one week. Kits must be borrowed from and returned to the same library location.
A $5.00 deposit is required, which is reimbursed to the borrower when all items have been returned in satisfactory condition. Borrowers will be fully invoiced for any lost books, cds or glove puppets.
