We're kicking off the giving season with Giving Tuesday!
Community is at the centre of everything we do at the Barrie Public Library. On December 1, we will be hosting our first-ever Giving Tuesday campaign – a one-day give-a-thon with the goal of raising $500.00 for our newest program, Knitted Knockers.
Giving Tuesday is a Canadian movement devoted to kicking off the giving season, taking place each year after Cyber Monday. It is a day for people to rally together and support their community, whether it’s through volunteering time or supporting a charity.
Our campaign is centered around Knitted Knockers, a volunteer-led program that began in June 2015. The group gets together monthly to knit special hand-made breast prostheses for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. They are provided free of charge and distributed locally to women in Barrie.
Funding is needed to keep Knitted Knockers running
The program has been so successful that additional funding is required to keep the program running. 100% of the funds raised on Giving Tuesday will allow the library to purchase materials for Knitted Knockers. Barrie Public Library’s Downtown Branch will have an information table set up all day to accept donations and take orders from women who would like to request support from the Knitted Knockers program. You can also donate online here: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/barrie-public-library/.
Knitted Knockers is a program that takes ‘more than just books’ to a whole new level and really showcases the Barrie Public Library’s new community- led service model!
