40th Anniversary of VLS at Barrie Library
Ruby Anniversary of VLS
October 2013 marks the 40th anniversary of Visiting Library Service (VLS) at Barrie Public Library. VLS is a home delivery service provided to those who cannot come to the library in person due to health reasons. Many recipients are seniors, but this service also assists those recovering from major surgery, and those with ongoing mobility issues. Staff selects items for each user based on an individual profile. The items are delivered and picked-up by screened volunteers. The library currently has 139 individuals and 17 retirement homes who use this service. Where possible, VLS volunteers deliver to users who live near their own homes.
Look for our library display during October.
Use of VLS is expected to increase over the next 40 years. If you can spare 1 to 3 hours every 3 weeks, we would be happy to consider you as a delivery volunteer.
